SEA-Teacher Project #2: Orientation day from CRRU.

Orientation Day from CRRU.

Miss Nok (CRRU’s coordinator) told us to get ready at 08.30. We’re having our breakfast together at the hotel, the receptionist told us which food is contains pork and which food is not (maybe Miss Nok have already tell them that the Indonesian delegates are all moeslim) – even tough we actually doubt because ofcourse they are using the same pan to cook, and we are using the same plate that they use to eat pork. My friends keeps on giving a suggestion like “bismillah aja sebelum makan” so we keep eating the chicken and all kind of food (except those who contains pork) wishing that it is halal for us. I could say that thai food taste are quiet the same with indonesian food, it is also put a lot of spice. I actually loves all the thai fruits (especially here in chiang rai), because its taste soooooooooooooooo fresh.

Hotel Food.
After having our breakfast, Miss Nok pick us up right at 08.30. We are riding something like the hotel-car (i guess) and Miss Nok bring us to CRRU’s President Buildings for having the welcoming with the President of CRRU. The welcoming held at the really huge room (i’m not sure what is the name of the room), with the huge picture at the wall. The president welcoming us with a speech, and gave us our Identity Card one by one- telling us common what to do and what not to do things around Chiang Rai. After the opening ceremoning, the next agenda that we will have is the orientation.

Welcoming from the President of CRRU.

We move to another room to have the orientation. The orientation leads by Mr. Tirawat. He told us what will we do for the next 30 days, he explain to us about thailand (especially Chiang Rai), and how should we done our report at the end of the project. Mr. T also intoduce us to the good place to visit at Chiang Rai.

Here's some video if you also want to know more about Chiang Rai and CRRU:

The orientation finished at 12.00, then we have our lunch together. They provide us halal food for lunch, and let us take a dhuhur pray before contunuing our orientation. Here another strange things happen: since there no place for us to take a wudhu, so we are having our wudhu at the washtafel and make all the floor wet. The cleaning-service sounds mad to us because we make a mess with the floor (but we don’t know what is she talking about bcoz she’s using thai language).
After having lunch and taking a pray, we come back to the room and having another instruction. There also some CRRU student come to the room (which they will be our buddy-someone who will accompany us if we want to go somewhere). They introducing their selves to us, their name and their study program (most of them are coming from the english department). And then we are randomly pick our buddy by taking their name from the piece of paper. I got a buddy named SUN, he’s an english department student of CRRU. He told me that he was just coming from the exchange from china and thats cool. He love to sleep, he said.

All the Delegation and Buddy.

Me with Sun.

After having met our buddy, they (our buddy) arrange us to having the campus tour. They bring us to see whats on their campuss by campur-car. I could say that CRRU is a really huge and good, it is provide all the facilities that their student need; classroom, lab, library, they even have their own lake! oh, and swimming pool! and many more. Here to more detail of CRRU: http://www.crru.ac.th/. After having this campus-tour, we comeback to the hall, and then Mt.T told us where is the name of the school that will we placed to learn, observe, and teach. Me and Dina arranged to Mengrai Wittayakhom School. The school is 5 minutes by car from CRRU. We still dont know anything yet about the school (i promise to tell you the detail on my 3rd day report-blog). After knowing our shool, we have our photo, and then Miss Nok return us back to the hotel.
Arrived at the hotel, me (and the other 4/5 of my friends) decide to take a walk and explore things around hotel (hoping that we will get some halal food to eat). But still, we ended up at 7eleven, and buy some yogurt and rice. After that, we decide to looking for a simcard so that we can use the internet. We found one but the seller can't speak in english. It takes an hour for us to finally buy the prefect simcard. Because i still dont want to buy simcard (i think i will check the school's wifi first to know what kind of provider will perfectly match me), so while my friends picking up the provider, i begin to talk to my phill friends named Sheila. Those one hour enough for me to talk and ask and got a lot of information about Phillippines. After buying simcard, we comeback to the hotel and take a pray.
